Chinese Navy Warns Young Soldiers Against Online Dating

China’s navy has urged its young officers and military personnel to be cautious of online dating scams and virtual gambling.

The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) cited the security risks dating apps pose to Chinese society in a message on Chinese social media.

Addressed primarily to those born post-1990, the message urged the soldiers to take extra caution and hide their military identity to avoid exploitation at the enemy’s hand.

The message came at an interesting time when the Chinese navy is making high-level preparations.

Dating & Gambling Are Evils

The warning message also advised the soldiers and sailors to never let down their guards by indulging in dating and gambling.

The soldiers were particularly cautioned against virtual gambling, which is illegal in China.

The statement compared the gambling addiction to a “demonic possession” that can lead to severe financial ruin, according to Reuters.

The message aligns with President Xi Jinping’s ongoing efforts to root out corruption and instill discipline across all ranks amid speculations that the leader might order the invasion of Taiwan soon.
