A North Carolina carpenter’s luck took a life-changing turn after he found a $20 bill and used it to buy a lottery ticket.
The ticket turned out to be worth retiring for after Jerry Hicks won a $1 million jackpot.
According to the North Carolina Education Lottery, Hicks claimed his prize at their headquarters last Friday after tax deductions.

Hicks To Retire After Major Win
Hicks from Avery County stumbled upon the bill in the parking lot outside a Speedway convenience store.
He decided to use his unexpected find to try his luck with a $25 Extreme Cash scratch-off ticket.
Opting for a lump sum, he took home $429,007 after taxes were deducted.
The 56-year-old carpenter, after spending 50+ years in trade, revealed that his winnings will allow him to retire and spend more time with his family.
