Meta has reportedly fired several employees for misusing the company’s meal voucher system by purchasing non-food items such as toothpaste and washing powder.
Meta employees are given $25 for lunch, $20 for breakfast, and $25 with which staff can purchase food from Grubhub.
According to a BBC report that quoted Meta staff, the company alleged that the fired employees also exceeded their limit and used each other’s vouchers.
30 Employees Were Fired
According to posts on the anonymous work forum Blind, more than 30 employees were fired after breaching the company’s.
While some employees said they received warnings before being dismissed, others said that they were fired without prior notice.
Other Job Cuts
Separately, Meta has also made broader job cuts across WhatsApp, Instagram, and Reality Labs, its virtual reality unit.
This wave of layoffs are reportedly unrelated to the meal voucher policy violations, the Financial Times reported.
