After weeks of bitter rivalry with Brazilian top judge, Elon Musk’s X has finally resumed services in the country.
The social media platform X has returned to Brazil after more than a month-long suspension due to a legal dispute between Elon Musk, and Brazil’s Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
The platform had been blocked on August 30 after Musk clashed with de Moraes over free speech, far-right accounts, and misinformation.
Why Brazil Banned X?
The Brazilian top judge de Moraes urged authorities to ban the platform after it failed to suspend anti-Brazil accounts and pay pending dues.
Musk was ordered to block specific accounts, pay fines, and appoint a legal representative to face legal disputes in the country.
After complying with court’s orders, Moraes said X had met all the necessary requirements to start operating again in the country.
The court’s decision to lift the ban on X was marked as a victory for democracy by human rights organizations and activists in the country.
