Video footage released by the US military showed a Russian fighter jet flying dangerously close to a US fighter aircraft.
Aerial intercepts are routine in Alaska but the recent one was just a few feet away from hitting the US fighter jet.
The interception comes after scores of Russian air incursions into the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) which is near to the US territory, AP reported.
Interception Was Dangerous
An Air Force official told AP that the US F-16 fighter jet was conducting a routine flight under the US North American Aerospace Defense Command.
The Russian fighter jet was just a few feet away from our fighter jet and could have easily collided, the official said.
Why ADIZ is Important?
The ADIZ is important near Alaska due to its proximity to Russian airspace.
It is monitored by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), and foreign aircraft flying in this zone are expected to identify themselves to U.S. authorities.
