A Brazilian Supreme Court seized around $3 million from the bank accounts of Elon Musk’s companies, X (formerly Twitter) and Starlink, to collect fines owed by X.
The fines were imposed on X to remove content flagged as illegal by Brazil’s Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes, which the platform didn’t do.
Accounts Were Unfrozen
After the fines were collected, de Moraes ordered the accounts to be unfrozen.
De Moraes froze the bank accounts of both companies while both companies function separately.
The highest judicial position in Brazil previously banned X from operating in the country for not removing “illegal” content the company was told to remove.
Legal Analysts Disagree
Legal experts the Associated Press talked to disagreed with the decision to charge Starlink as it remains a completely different organization.
Critics argue that Starlink should not be held responsible for X’s fines. Nonetheless, de Moraes ruled to seize $1.3 million from X’s account and $2 million from Starlink’s.
