Scientists from Switzerland are working on a robot to collect and dump hundreds of tones of space debris floating in space.
Space is increasingly crowded with man-made trash with scientists urging humans to act before it’s too late.
The space debris not only poses a threat to human life on earth, but it also interferes in space research.
Robots To Clear Space
In Switzerland, a team of scientists are now working on a mission called ClearSpace-1 to solve the space junk problem.
The project aims to send robots into space to collect the trash and clean the space orbit.
The engineers are currently training the robot’s camera to recognize and track pieces of debris, even when they are hidden in shadows.
Space Debris in Ocean
The robot’s mission is to drag the space trash toward Earth.
Smaller objects will burn up as they enter the atmosphere, while larger pieces will be safely dropped into the ocean, which scientists say is a safer option.
