NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore, who have been stranded in space for over two months will now return to Earth in February 2025 aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon vehicle.
The crew have been in orbit after technical issues were observed with the Starliner that extended their stay.
Boeing’s Starliner To Return Uncrew
Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft, which was intended to bring the astronauts back to Earth, will now return uncrewed due to the issues.
Boeing and NASA said that the spacecraft leaked helium and had malfunctioning thrusters as the reason remains unknown.
Both the organizations have collaborated closely to understand what caused the issues and are committed to the safe return of astronauts.
Astronauts Are Continuing Their Work
It seems like the extended delay didn’t stop the stranded astronauts from following the professional protocol abroad.
Astronauts said they will conduct scientific research and perform space station maintenance till they come back.
