A 51,200 years old cave art cave in Indonesia to be the world’s oldest artwork in world’s history.
Scientists used advanced dating techniques and confirmed that the enigmatic paintings in Indonesia’s Sulawesi island are the world’s oldest art work.
The paintings depict a wild pig and three human-like figures that are 5,000 years older than the previous ancient painting.
Paintings Created By Human Ancestors
The extreme age of the art suggests the possibility that it may have been created by ancient hominin relatives rather than modern humans.
The cave is known to have some of the world’s ancient paintings including the recent discovery.
Adhi Agus Oktaviana, an Indonesian rock art specialist from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in Jakarta said that the ancient paintings show how human civilizations have been shaped throughout thousands of years.
“Humans have probably been telling stories for much longer than 51,200 years,” he said.
