The French intelligence and police authorities are investigating a massive sabotage attack on its largest high-speed railway ahead of Paris Olympics 2024.
One French official told the AFP that the railway suffered a coordinated multi-front attack just hours before the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics.
What Happened?
In what officials describe as acts of “sabotage,” multiple arson attacks targeted the French high-speed rail system overnight.
These attacks severely disrupted the transportation network, particularly affecting the Atlantic, northern, and eastern lines, affecting 800,000 people in the country.
Images shared by locals showed the lines of railway lying exposed with apparent marks of sabotage aimed to paralyze the railway network.
Security Concerns
French authorities have already deployed thousands of police and military officers in the capital with VIPs expected to attend.
The heightened security measures are part of France’s response to the highest alert for terror attacks and Russia sabotage attempts.
