A global IT outage has caused chaos around the world with major airlines, banks, healthcare, public services and media organizations facing intense drop in functioning.
Microsoft, which identified the cause of the outage, said it was caused by a product update offered by a cybersecurity firm called CrowdStrike but the issue has been solved.
Almost Everything Effected
Almost all of the world’s top service providers saw a sudden drop when the Microsoft Windows operating system crashed following the update.
It disrupted businesses and hundreds of institutions in disarray by throwing airports, rail companies, airlines, government services, supermarkets, banks, telecommunication agencies, stock exchanges, health systems and media outlets into chaos, Reuters said.
Issue Fixed
The BBC’s live report mentioned that Microsoft first blamed a third-party firm for the outage but later said it fixed it.
Crowdstrike’s George Kurtz, the cybersecurity boss, apologized in an interview with US broadcaster NBC News, saying he is sorry “to anyone affected by this, including our companies”.
