A United Airlines flight safely landed in Denver after losing a landing-gear wheel during takeoff from Los Angeles, the airline reported.
No injuries were reported among the 174 passengers and 7 crew members on board.
The affected aircraft was a Boeing 757-200, nearly 30 years old, according to FlightRadar24 data.
Airline Vowed Investigation
United Airlines confirmed in a statement on Monday, “The wheel has been recovered in Los Angeles, and we are investigating what caused this event.”
This incident marks the second such occurrence for the airline this year.
Last Incident
Earlier this year, in March, a United Airlines Boeing 777-200 bound for Japan lost a tire mid-air after taking off from San Francisco.
The plane was safely diverted to Los Angeles International Airport without reporting any injuries.
The wheel landed on a car in an airport employee parking lot, breaking a window.
The U.S. flight industry is facing increased scrutiny since a door plug blew off an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 9 in mid-air in Oregon.
