A U.S. Embassy staff member has been found dead in Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, according to local media reports.
The body of the unnamed attaché was discovered on Tuesday at the Hilton Hotel, as reported by the online newspaper Strana UA and the Ukrainian news outlet New Voice (NV), both citing law enforcement sources.
US Confirmed Staffer’s Death
U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller confirmed the death during a Wednesday press conference.
He noted that the deceased was a U.S. government employee working in Kyiv.
Miller emphasized that the staffer died of natural causes as the Ukrainian police didn’t find anything suspicious.
NV reported that the hotel room door was closed from the inside, and there were no signs of bodily injury.
The body was taken by the U.S. Embassy, and no autopsy was performed. Medical data provided by the U.S.
The Embassy indicated the man had high cholesterol, but the authorities are currently investigating the matter.
