While the western tech companies are increasingly targeted by malicious cyber attackers looking to steal user data, the President of Microsoft has pointed the finger at one global actor.
Microsoft President Brad Smith revealed to the House Committee on Homeland Security that Iran was behind 300 million cyber-attacks against it on a daily basis.
Mr. Brad did acknowledge the sophistication of these cyber-attacks suggesting a collaborative effort to root it out.
The Iranian Government is Directly Involved
Mr. Brad said the cyber wing of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was directly responsible for these attacks against US companies.
The malicious groups are not just targeting US tech companies but have the potential to influence upcoming elections in November, the reports mentioned.
Brad told the committee that “improving Microsoft alone will not suffice.
We are facing formidable adversaries in North Korea, Russia, China, and Iran” and the collaboration among these actors should be expected.
