Several ISIS linked terrorists were killed in an operation to free two prison guards held in Rostov, a city in southern Russia, according to Russian media reports.
Special forces stormed the pre-trial detention center, successfully rescuing the uninjured guards while killing all the terrorists.
The six detained men, facing terrorism charges linked to the Islamic State (IS) group, were armed with knives.
Terrorists Demanded Vehicle & Safe Passage
They had demanded a vehicle, firearms, and free passage out of the center.
The situation began on Sunday morning when reports of the hostage-taking emerged.
Police and special forces responded, and gunfire was heard during the brief three-minute operation to storm the facility.
Suspects Identified As IS Members
The detainees identified themselves as IS members and insisted their actions were deliberate.
Several attacks claimed by IS have occurred on Russian soil, the most recent being in March when gunmen killed 145 people and injured over 500 in a Moscow concert hall.
Russia attempted to link that attack to Ukraine, but Kyiv denied any involvement.
