Florida state has deployed new ways of targeting mosquitos, using drones to kill them even in places hard to reach.
Broward County has started deploying drones to use anti-mosquito spray that fly up to three acres at one time.
According to a report from the South Florida Sun Sentinel, the drones were designed by Leading Edge Aerial Technologies with sophisticated equipment that can kill mosquito eggs in their hatching stages without affecting the areas around it.
Human Intervention Reduced
Previously, teams had to navigate Florida’s marshy areas where Aedes mosquitoes, also known as “Yellow fever mosquitoes,” lay their eggs.
Now, drones can handle this task, reducing the need for human intervention at an unprecedented scale never thought of before.
The use of drones in mosquito control isn’t new as Florida experimented with drones to locate pools of water where mosquitoes breed.
Before drones, local governments typically used larger aircraft, such as planes and helicopters, to distribute pesticides over mosquito-infested areas, as reported by the Associated Press.
