A woman in Nebraska was found alive at a funeral home after being declared dead at a nursing home, New York Times reported citing authorities.
Staff at a funeral home in Waverly, near Lincoln, called 911 on Monday after finding out the 74-year-old woman was still alive and breathing.
This occurred about two hours after nursing home staff pronounced Constance Glantz dead.
Glantz’s Death Was Expected
Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said health officials were expecting Glantz’s death and had already issued a death certificate a week ago.
Houchin said in a press conference that the police have not found anything suspicious in the case as it was a normal occurrence.
Death is A Process
Dr. Stephen Hughes, a senior lecturer in medicine at Anglia Ruskin University’s School of Medicine, noted that such cases are rare but that “death is a process.”
He explained to the BBC that sometimes people may appear dead but are not because certain drugs can slow down biological processes when in reality things are not that bad.
