Generous donors have raised $233,000 to give a 90-year-old former US veteran who has been pushing carts a chance to retire.
Mr. Dillon McCormick has been supporting himself alone by working as a cart pusher at a Winn-Dixie grocery store in the New Orleans suburb under 90F temperatures.
The old former veteran now has a chance to retire, thanks to a local news anchor, Karen Swensen Ronquillo, who created a GoFundMe page for him.
To Eat
Upon questioning why Mr. Dillon was working in the horrible heat of Louisiana, and that too on the Memorial Day holiday, he replied “to eat”.
On a GoFundMe page she set up, Ronquillo revealed that McCormick’s living expenses are about $2,500 a month, while he only receives $1,100 from Social Security.
To cover the gap, he took a job at Winn-Dixie, pushing carts through the store’s parking lot.
So far, more than 5,500 donors have contributed enough money that can help him retire and live in peace.
