A tech firm in the United States has agreed to pay $38,500 for posting “white only” jobs advertisements.
The US assistant attorney general, Kristen Clark, called the advertisement “shameful” in the 21st century and said the advert violated both federal civil rights and labor laws.
Media reports could not confirm why Arthur Grand Technologies resorted to such tactics while hiring people for the company.
Advert Was Posted By Subsidiary
According to the BBC report, the advertisement was actually posted by a recruiter working under Arthur Grand’s subsidiary in India.
The advert read: “Only Born US Citizens [White] who are local within 60 miles from Dallas, TX [Don’t share with candidates]”.
The report suggests that the company is liable to pay $7,000 to the US treasury and the remaining amount to those who filed complaints against the firm.
Kristen Clark rejected companies working with the Federal government to have “white only” hiring policy as “shameful” and “appalling”.
