A US airman instructor ejected from a grounded plane and died at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas, the BBC reported.
The victim was identified as Capt. John Robertson, an instructor pilot of T-6A Texan II from the 80th Operations Support Squadron with several decorations to his name.
Airman Died in Hospital
Mr. Robertson was transferred to a nearby health facility upon injuring himself but passed away the next morning.
The acting commander of the 80th Flying Training Wing praised Mr. Robertson’s work as a “highly valued airman and instructor pilot” for the US Air Force.
Investigation Initiated
Sheppard Air Force Base later said that an inquiry has been initiated to highlight the cause of the incident to avoid future mishaps.
“An Air Force Safety Investigation Board will start later this week and will eventually release its findings related to the incident,” the statement said.
