Russia has announced plans to take half a million international students for study programs in Russian universities by 2030.
The decree signed by the Russian President Vladamir Putin shows the Russian leadership is facing crisis at home as most of the skilled youth have already left the county.
International Students Have Increased By 20%
According to the Russian News Agency TASS stats, the number of international students at Russian universities has increased by over 20% in the past five years.
The Russian government has increased the numbers by 200,000 since 2020 when the targeted goal remained 310,000 students.
According to the report published by Erudera.com, Russia’s medicine and engineering are the most popular fields of study among international students.
Why is Russia Doing So?
Experts believe the step shows underlined insecurity which has grappled Russian leadership since it invaded Ukraine.
Russia is desperately seeking international students to fill the void left by students who are leaving the country amid economic constraints, western media reports mentions.
