The French President Emmanuel Macron has decided to offer fertility checks to young people between 18 to 25 to push back against declining birth rates.
The announcement comes as the majority of European countries are in the crisis of declining birth rates.
France, specifically, had its lowest birth rate in 2023 of 1.8 per woman since World War 2, the Telegraph mentioned.
Demographic Rearmament
The initiative is what Mr. Macron calls the “demographic rearmament”, which means implementing a wide range of policies aimed at stabilizing the birth rate in France.
Mr. Macron also promised to invest a lot on research into the problem of infertility among the French youth, particularly between 18 and 25.
Macron is Against Surrogacy
Although the President is considered a progressive, he has repeatedly expressed opposition to the idea of surrogacy.
He suggests that the practice is “not compatible with the dignity of women, it is a form of commodification of their bodies.”
Macron’s opposition against surrogacy stems from his insecurity about the declining birth rates in the country.
