A latest groundbreaking study has revealed that living a healthy lifestyle could potentially counteract the impact of genetics by more than 60% and add five years to life.
The study, published in BMJ Evidence-Based Medicine, is the first to explore how lifestyle factors might mitigate the role of genetics in aging.
The Research
Researchers analyzed over 350,000 participants from the UK Biobank, to determine the relationship between genetics, lifestyle, and lifespan.
The study highlighted that adopting a healthy lifestyle could mitigate genetic risks by around 62%, potentially adding over five years of life expectancy by age 40.
78% Chance of Early Death
The research concluded that those with unhealthy lifestyles have a 78% chance of dying early regardless of their genetic risk.
The study busts the myth that genetics literally controls our lives and no matter what good we do, nothing positive is going to come out of exercise and a healthy diet.
The research did acknowledge that they have empirical or statistical data to suggest up to what extent the healthy lifestyle counterbalances genetics.
