100 Inmates Escape in Nigeria After Heavy Rain Damages Prison

Over 100 prisoners escaped from a jail near Nigeria’s capital after heavy rain caused damage to part of the facility where they were held.

The identities of the escaped prisoners remain unclear and the government authorities are doing everything to make sure they don’t pose a threat to the public.

However, prison officials reassured the public, stating they are collaborating with other security agencies to address the situation.

Total 118 Inmates Fled

Authorities reported that 118 inmates initially fled the Suleja Prison, but 10 have since been recaptured, and efforts are underway to find the others.

A statement from Abuja’s prison authority highlighted that many of the prison facilities in Suleja were constructed during the colonial era and have since deteriorated due to age.

The heavy rainfall occurred at the onset of the rainy season following a recent heatwave, with Nigeria’s meteorological agency issuing warnings of heavy rains and potential flooding in certain states.
