Google Sacks 28 Employees For Protesting Over Contract

The tech giant Google has sacked 28 employees for protesting its latest contract with the Israeli government.

The BBC reported that employees affiliated with the protest group No Tech For Apartheid protested against the contract, alleging that it helps the Israeli government cause more civilian casualties. 

Google Clarifies

In response to the genocide accusations, the company said the Project Nimbus “is not directed at highly sensitive, classified, or military workloads relevant to weapons or intelligence services”.

The company said the behavior of its employees was completely unacceptable as they prevented staff from accessing the office building.

Project Nimbus is an Israeli government and military cloud computing initiative that aims to offer comprehensive cloud services to government, defense, and other sectors.

The project, announced by the Israeli Finance Ministry in April 2021, will establish local cloud sites ensuring data remains within Israel’s borders with extreme security measures.
