A man wielding a knife attacked shoppers at a bustling shopping center in Sydney, Australia, resulting in the deaths of at least six people and injuries to several others.
Eight individuals, including a nine-month-old baby and her mother, were swiftly transported to hospitals after the assault occurred at the crowded shopping center.
Suspect Fatally Shot
Assistant Commissioner Anthony Cooke of NSW police said the assailant, who remains unidentified, was fatally shot by a police officer who responded to the incident.
Police indicated that some of the victims were in serious or critical condition.
Motive Not Apparent
Hundreds of people were evacuated from the scene, according to local media, with police securing the area and aiding the injured, as shown in broadcast footage.
The motive behind the attack was not immediately apparent. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese later stated that speculation would be unhelpful and urged allowing investigators to conduct their work.
