The European Union is investigating tech giants over what it refers to as uncompetitive practices.
Meta, Apple, Microsoft, ByteDance, and Alphabet, which owns Google, are being investigated for breaching the Digital Markets Act (DMA), an act that aims to make the digital economy fairer and more contestable.
Three Out Of Six Currently Questioned
Out of the six tech giants, mostly American, only three are investigated and questioned.
Meta, Apple, and Alphabet recently submitted their compliance reports to the European Union for further follow-up.
The investigation comes three weeks after the EU fined Apple €1.8bn (£1.5bn) for undermining competition laws over music streaming.
EU Investigating Five Acts
The EU has decided to investigate five acts regarding the three tech giants.
The first two are related to whether or not Apple and Alphabet are allowing apps to communicate freely with users. The third refers to the choice of users.
The fourth one is whether Meta is unfairly asking users to pay to avoid their data being used for advertisements.
Number fifth is related to whether Google prefers its own goods in search results.
