A Japanese startup space rocket exploded seconds after its launch in the Wakayama region of western Japan.
The startup Space One’s first rocket, Kairos, aimed to put a satellite in Earth’s orbit 51 minutes after takeoff.
Space One is Japan’s first ever private company to put a satellite into orbit.
Video Captures Moment
The Japanese space company released footage showing the rocket taking off from its launching pad. Just seconds after the launch, the rocket explodes and produces a huge fireball in the air.
“The launch of the first Kairos rocket was executed, but we took a measure to abort the flight,” Space One said in a statement.
Residents Expressed Disappointment
The remote region of Kushimoto, which is home to around 15,000 people, expressed disappointment at the failure.
The mayor told the local media that the people didn’t expect such an outcome but they would offer help to make the launch a success.
