Russian Dreams Apart As Sweden Joins NATO

Sweden has officially joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as Russia wages a brutal war in Ukraine.

After completing the accession process in Washington yesterday, Sweden has formally become the 32nd country to join the military alliance.

In the wake of NATO’s enlargement, President Joe Biden said the coalition is stronger than ever.

Russian Dreams Shatter

Countries like Finland and Sweden applied for NATO membership after Russia invaded Ukraine, fearing a possible spillover after months of negotiations with two NATO members who were blocking Sweden’s entrance into the military alliance, i.e., Turkey and Hungary.

Turkey accused Stockholm of supporting Kurdish terrorists in its territory, and Hungary was disappointed over an unknown reason.

What Now?

As the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken handed over the accession documents to the Swedish counterpart, Sweden is officially protected by an alliance of 32 countries.

In case of any foreign invasion, all 32 countries will directly involve themselves to protect Sweden.
