Environmentalists Build Treehouses to Protest Tesla’s Expansion

Environmental activists in Germany have devised a unique way of protesting against Tesla’s expansion plans in a forest in Groenheide, Berlin.

Environmental activists are staging a prolonged protest in a Berlin forest opposing Tesla’s first car-making plant in Europe.

German news agency DPA reported that the company wants to cut around 100 hectares (247 acres) of forest in the area.

Stop Tesla

Approximately 80 to 100 activists, part of the “Stop Tesla” initiative, have set up tents and treehouses, intending to remain until at least March 15.

German police, while monitoring the situation, have allowed the protest to continue till March 15.

Tesla’s Gruenheide plant, opened in March 2022, seeks expansion for a freight depot, warehouses, and a company kindergarten, potentially requiring clearing over 100 hectares of forest.

The expansion faces opposition from environmentalists and locals concerned about the potential impact of water in the area.

In February, a nonbinding vote by Gruenheide residents opposed Tesla’s plans, pending official approval.
