An angry mob in Pakistan assaulted a woman for wearing clothes with Arabic text on them but was fortunately saved by a brave female officer.
The female police officer named Syeda Shehrbano escorted her to safety after hundreds gathered to assault her.
Local media reported that the mob mistook the Arabic word “Halwa”, which means beautiful in Arabic.
Details of The Incident
According to the BBC Urdu report, the police received a call at 13:10 local (08:10 GMT) about a woman who was reportedly being assaulted by a huge mob.
The initial investigation revealed that the woman wore clothes with some Arabic text written on them.
The mob accused the woman of blasphemy, which is punishable by death in Pakistan.
Videos circulating on social media showed Assistant Superintendent Syeda Shehrbano telling the mob to behave themselves as they didn’t even understand the text and stood almost to kill the woman.
