Nearly 15% of Americans Are Climate Deniers, New Study Finds

While climate change is causing havoc around the world, millions of Americans are denying climate change even exists in the first place.

The study published by the University of Michigan reveals that around 15% of the American population deny climate change and the science behind it.

Researchers Used AI

Researchers went through millions of posts on X, formerly Twitter, to access the perspectives of people.

The scholars adopted Artificial Intelligence to analyze 7.4m tweets posted by roughly 1.3 million people on the platform.

All the posts were geocoded and classified as “for” or “against” climate change using a large language model to conclude what the users are trying to say.

49 Million Denies Climate Change

The revelations coincide with the previous studies done on the subject.

Around 49 million, 16% of the population, said they don’t believe in climate change in the survey conducted by the University of Yale in 2023.

Co-author of the latest study, Joshua Newell said he was disappointed by the findings as he thought no one could dispute the obvious science behind climate change.
