The US has seized a Boeing 747 cargo plane that Iran illegally sold to a Venezuelan state airline.
The Iranian airline sold the plane, violating US export laws that prohibit dealings with state-sanctioned entities.
On Monday, the US Department of Justice said it had taken possession of the plane after Argentina grounded it in 2022.
Sale of Plane Violated Sanctions
The US said the plane was sold by an Iranian entity in violation of sanctions imposed on Iran.
Reports suggest that the aircraft was transferred by Mahan Air, an Iranian airline, which experts suggest has helped Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force.
Plane To Be Disposed Off
The Associated Press reported that the US-built plane is scheduled to be disposed of once it arrives in Florida.
Venezuela has demanded that Argentine authorities release the plane while Mahan Air has denied any ties to the aircraft.
