Report Says Florida Tops List of Deadliest Areas For Cyclists

In a new analysis published by a private firm, Florida currently dominates the list of deadliest areas for cyclists.

The study was conducted by the Georgia-based personal injury law firm Bader Scott and focused on 200 populous counties in the country.

The data is a concern for authorities in the state, as seven out of the top ten dangerous listed areas are in Florida.

Details of Different Counties

According to the data, Pasco County, ranked first, reported 40 deaths between 2017 and 2021 from a population of about 562,000.

The counties of Sarasota and Manatee ranked second and third with cyclist fatality rates of 5.53 and 5.25 per 100,000, respectively.

The lowest rate of fatality was reported in Hillsborough, which stood at 4.52 cyclist deaths per 100,000 people.

American roads are dangerous for cyclists, with 17 cyclist deaths reported every week, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates.
