Biden Confuses German Leader with Dead Predecessor Again

US President Joe Biden once again confused a European leader with a predecessor who died in 2017.

While talking at a New York reception on Wednesday, Biden said he exchanged views with German leader Helmut Kohl in 2021, who died in 2017.

In reality, Biden held a conversation with Angela Merkel on the sidelines of the G7 summit in 2021.

Second Time in A Week

This is the second time in a week that the President has confused European leaders with their dead predecessors.

Previously, the President confused French President Emmanuel Macron with late President François Mitterrand, who had died 28 years ago.

Mitterrand was President of France from 1981 to 1995 and died in 1996.

White House Says It Is Common

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters that people can misspeak at times.

“It happens to all of us, it’s common,” she said as she brushed aside a question from a reporter about Biden’s health.
