A fake video of the President Joe Biden remains on Facebook, exposing Meta’s incoherent policy.
Meta’s independent body has found that a video wrongfully suggesting that the US president, Joe Biden, is a pedophile does not violate rules and regulations of the company.
Meta Urged To Label Content
It ruled that Meta was right to leave the video up under its current policy, but it must label fake content.
The Oversight Board urged Meta to make a coherent policy with regards to fake content even if it doesn’t violate the company’s established rules.
Meta’s spokesperson told the BBC that the company was reviewing the recommendations of the board.
Biden’s Video
The clip in question manipulated real footage of Biden exchanging stickers with his little granddaughter during the 2022 US midterm elections and kissing her on the cheek.
Meta said it “will respond publicly to their recommendations within 60 days in accordance with the bylaws”.
