The US Defense Secretary has been diagnosed with prostate cancer after his secret hospitalization was uncovered recently.
The US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin kept his treatment a secret from senior officials in the defense department and even US President Joe Biden.
The White House said in a statement that Biden plans to “stick with” Austin as defense secretary.
Biden Was Unaware
The US President Joe Biden was unaware of the fact that Mr. Austin was hospitalized and was being treated for prostate cancer, the Associated Press reported.
Austin and the US president had spoken on Saturday, so it was unclear why Biden did not learn about his cancer, the guardian mentioned.
“Nobody at the White House knew that Secretary Austin had prostate cancer until this morning,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said in a press briefing.
The President has clarified that he wants to stick with Austin for the rest of his term.
