Ohio Governor Vetoes Bill Banning Health Care For Trans Minors

Ohio’s governor has vetoed a gender affirmation bill in sharp contrast to his party’s earlier position, which voted for the measure this month.

Mike DeWine, to the surprise of many, vetoed a crucial bill that demanded banning gender-affirming healthcare for kids and also banned trans athletes from participating in women’s sports.

Surprise Move

Republicans have always been on the same page on issues related to LGBT and trans rights.

Mike DeWine surprised many by leaning in favor of LGBT community members who had advocated for equal rights to the state’s healthcare system.

The veto didn’t come without conditions, as Republicans have enough numbers in the state legislature and are expected to make provisions.

The Human Rights Campaign said the decision to veto the anti-trans bill was a major victory for the LGBT community.
