Maine’s Top Election Official Rules Trump Out Of Ballot

Mauine’s top election official has barred Former President Donald Trump from the state election race.

Maine became the second state to have banned Trump from contesting the upcoming presidential elections.

Donald Trump has already been disqualified from Colorado’s 2024 presidential ballot.

Reason

Maine’s Secretary of State Shenna Bellows applied a constitutional provision similar to Colorado’s Supreme Court’s decision.

Mr. Bellows said he was well aware that such provisions had never been applied to former presidents, but he is doing so based on section 3 of the 14th amendment.

According to the section, Mr. Trump is ineligible for the presidential campaign as he tried to overturn the January 2020 elections.

Trump’s spokesman said the decision was an open assault on American democracy.

“Make no mistake, these partisan election interference efforts are a hostile assault on American democracy,” Steven Cheung, a Trump campaign spokesperson, said.
