Turkish Football Club President Arrested For Punching Referee

The president of a Turkish football club has been arrested for punching a match referee in the face.

The president of Ankaragucu Faruk Koca hit referee Halil Umut Meler during the Super Lig home match.

The Turkish Justice Ministry said they had arrested Koca along with two others for the criminal offence.

Halil Almost Survived A Mob

The video showed a group of people running towards Halil and some other referees after the final whistle.

Caykur leveled the football match with Koca’s team Ankaragucu, after scoring an equalizer in the last 97th minute.

Koca and other men punched and kicked Halil when he fell to the ground.

Ankaragucu Apologizes

Koca’s team, Ankaragucu apologized to the public for the unacceptable behavior of their president.

“We apologize to the Turkish football public and the entire sports community for the sad incident”, the team’s official statement said.

President of the Turkish Football Federation chairman Mehmet Buyukeksi said Ankaragucu will be punished.
