Residents living near the Japanese beach Hokkaido were shocked to see thousands of dead fish lying on the beach.
The Associated Press reported that water waves swept thousands of dead fish, the reason for which is still unknown in the Japanese scientific community.
Cause is Unknown
Environmental and marine researchers are sceptical about the cause of the event.
People have been prohibited from consuming the fish while the researchers are working to determine the cause.
Fisheries researcher Takashi Fujioka said he had never witnessed such an incident before, as it didn’t to him.
The researchers also said the phenomenon could be bad for the marine environment as it can trigger food crises, resulting in thousands of species’ deaths and abnormal migration.
