A former US Ambassador and National Security Council official has been charged with espionage for secretly working for the Cuban government.
The Justice Department said Mr. Victor Manuel Rocha worked as a clandestine agent for the Cuban government for decades.
Ambassador Turned Agent
Victor Manuel Rocha, a former ambassador to Bolivia from 2000 to 2002, was charged with multiple crimes.
The Justice Department said the former diplomat used his position of authority to leak secret information to Cuba for almost four decades.
“We allege that for over 40 years, Victor Manuel Rocha served as an agent of the Cuban government”, Attorney General Merrick Garland said.
Long-Lasting Infiltration
The DOJ said Victor Manuel Rocha conducted the most extended espionage mission in United States history.
The FBI wrote on X that the former diplomat breached the trust the United States government had entrusted to him.
“We will find and hold accountable anyone who violates their oath”, the FBI said.
