The Russian President’s close ally has been suspected of forced adoption of a Ukrainian child.
According to the BBC, the child has been adopted by Sergey Mironov since 2022, when Russia illegally deported thousands of Ukrainian children.
The Ukrainian government said Russia has deported 20,000 children since the full-scale invasion.
Who is Sergey Mironov?
Sergey Mironov, a 70-year-old head of a major Russian political party known as “A Just Russia”. He received 3.86% of the votes in the 2012 Russian presidential elections.
According to the documents uncovered by the BBC, Sergey Mironov has adopted a 2-year-old Ukrainian girl after marrying a woman who took her in 2022.
Mironov Denies Allegations
Mr Mironov wrote on X that the allegations were “fake”. Mr Mironov’s statement is in line with the position of the Russian government, who rejects deporting Ukrainian children.
The child, Margarita, was taken from the Kherson Regional Children’s Home, when the Russian forces took over, BBC said.
