A Florida teen died after being struck by lightning in Florida. The 16-year-old girl named Baylee Holbrook, along with her father, both fell to the ground when a lightning struck a tree during a hike. Mr. Holbrook later woke up to find his daughter unconscious, who died after two days in a hospital.
High School Canceled Athletic Events
In Response to the tragic event, messages started pouring in from across the community members and friends. Ms. Holbrook’s high school Palatka Junior-Senior canceled all its athletic activities in solidarity. Her friends gathered at her high school to pray for her and her family.
28 People Die Every Year
As per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s, at least 28 people die each year. The data also revealed that around 25% of the lightning strike victims are young teens between 15 to 24. Six out of ten lightning deaths happen during an outdoor activity, the BBC reported.
