Amid soaring tension between the two countries, India has suspended new visas for Canadians until further notice.
The relations between the two countries have dropped to new low as both expelled the senior most diplomats. The Indian government also urged its citizens in Canada to remain vigilant after the Canadian PM accused India of killing Sikh leader.
India Suspends Canadian Visas
The Indian Visa application center in Canada said due to operational reasons, they’ll not be able to offer visa services until further notice. The India’s Ministry of External Affairs said the Indian diplomatic missions in Canada were facing security risks which have disrupted the normal functioning.
Canada Urged To Reduce Diplomatic Presence
Meanwhile, Indian foreign ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi urged the Canadian government to reduce its diplomatic presence in India. The statement said Canada’s diplomatic staff surpasses Indian diplomatic staff in Canada. “Their numbers here are very much higher than ours in Canada. I assume there will be a reduction.” the statement said.
