Two 9/11 Terror Attack Victims Identified After 22 Years

The New York City’s chief medical examiner Dr. Jason Graham has identified two more victims of the September 11 terror attacks.

The names of the victims have not been disclosed as the mayor office is waiting for the family’s approval.

The mayor office said these are the first identifications since September 2021.

The 1,648th and 1,649th Victims

As per Graham’s report, these two victims, a man and a woman, are the 1,648th and 1,649th out of the total who perished in 2001.

The report also sheds light on the fact that hundreds of victims are yet to be identified since 2001. The last discovery was made in 2021, when the medical examiner identified Dorothy Morgan, a 47-year-old woman.

How Were The Victims identified?

Mr. Graham said the investigative team has used “the largest and most complex forensic investigation in the history of our country” to identify the victims.

The man was identified through DNA testing of the remains recovered in 2001. The investigative team confirmed the female through the testing of victim’s remains recovered in 2001, 2006 and 2013.
