A powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.8 shook Morocco, killing more than 1,000. The earthquake struck at 23:11 local time followed by aftershocks a few minutes after. The rescue teams are currently working around the country and the fatalities are expected to surpass 2,000.
Citizens Warned Not To Enter Homes
According to the Interior Ministry of Morocco, the earthquake struck in the remote regions and the access is making things complicated. As per the latest updates, provinces such as Marrakesh, al-Haouz, Azilal, Ouarzazate, Chichaoua and Taroudant were severely hit as most of the fatalities were reported in these regions.
World Leaders Poured Condolences
World leaders reacted with statements and condolences to the loss of more than 800 precious lives. The US President Joe Biden said they are willing to provide immediate assistance. Other leaders including the Russian, Turkish and Chinese presidents also expressed their support to the people of Morocco.
