Miss Universe has severed ties with the Indonesian chapter after accusations of sexual harassment. The Miss Universe organization posted on X that they are cutting ties after receiving complaints of alleged strip searches by the local organizers.
Organizers Strip Searched Finalists
The organization said it has received complaints from half a dozen women who testified that 30 finalists were asked to strip for body check. The statement said the accused also took photographs of some of the finalists before they contested.
Miss Universe Cancels Malaysian Edition
The New York-based beauty pageant said they were canceling their contracts with PT Capella Swastika Karya, a company who runs the Indonesian pageant, and the National Director of the company, Poppy Capella.
Capella said she wasn’t involved in anything like that and had “never known, ordered, requested or allowed anyone” to commit such violence. Miss Universe also cancelled this year’s Malaysia pageant because the same franchise holds the license to that too, the statement said.
