NASA failed to detect an asteroid that was bigger than a 20-story building, for two days. NASA’s monitoring systems couldn’t grab the trajectory of the asteroid called the 2023 NT1. The space agency came to know about the asteroid on 15 July, two days after it had already sailed past earth.

2023 NT1 Was 60 Meters Wide
2023 NT1 was only around 60 meters in width traveling with an estimated speed of 53,000 mph, the space agency said. In comparison to the 60-foot Chelyabinsk meteor that injured 1,600 people, when it smashed earth in 2013, the recent asteroid could have caused extreme damage.
Newly-discovered #asteroid 2023 NT1 passed about 1/4 the Moon's distance on July 13, but wasn't discovered until July 15, as it approached Earth in the daytime sky. It may be as large as 60 meters across, possibly larger than the asteroid that caused Meteor Crater in Arizona. pic.twitter.com/VLXB4ChTMJ

Asteroid Wasn’t Hazardous
Not all asteroids are termed hazardous by NASA, but those that do, are much more dangerous in terms of destruction. The 2023 NT1 was termed non-hazardous by the space agency as the asteroid didn’t fit the criteria by being three times smaller.
