Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang has been missing from the public eye for more than 3 weeks now. The Foreign Minister’s absence has sparked speculations as to what could have gone wrong in the power circles in China.
Foreign Minister Missing For 23 Days
Mr. Qin has not been seen since his engagements with the representatives from Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Russia in Beijing, 23 days ago. The foreign minister, who is a seasoned diplomat and also a close associate of Chinese President Xi Jinping, assumed the position of foreign minister in December following a short period as an ambassador to the United States.
Sign of Trouble?
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning didn’t provide any information about Mr. Qin’s whereabouts when she was asked about it. The spokesperson’s worrisome response has led people to speculate as it is quite rare for a Chinese high-profile figure to disappear without any explanations.
